DIY Homemade Dog Food

We know that homemade dog food is the best and healthier option for your canine friend. However, because preparing dog food requires more effort than scooping out some dry kibble, many pet parents tend to avoid homemade feed. I love the food mommy gives me. She tries to mix things up and doesn’t make it so boring.

First, my mommy found out the foods that are harmful to us(more on that later) and those that are healthy and nutritious. She also wrote them on post-its and stuck on the refrigerator so that my Daddy and maid also read them. When its lunchtime, I go with mommy to the kitchen as she prepares the chicken stock and veggies. I do not disturb her while she cooks. Mommy is often amazed at how patiently I can wait. Well, she doesn’t know it is because the kitchen is filled with irresistibly delicious aromas and I louve it.

Mommy has been making homemade dog food for years eventhough I am her first pet. Mommy always had a dog at her paternal home and hence the confidence. Some of you may say that you feed your pet the food that you eat. But did you know that the salt in your food can cause depression and seizure to us?

Since mommy loves cooking (she has an amazing food blog, y’know), she makes fresh food for me every day. However, for all the busy moms and dads out there she has asked me to share this great recipe with you. Plan ahead and prepare this food for you can keep it in the refrigerator for good about 4-5 days and serve your furball as and when needed.

This recipe uses chicken and rice. However, you can substitute chicken with another protein of your choice. Serving size depends on your puppy’s weight and size.

Ingredients

  • 500 gms cup chicken
  • 1/2 cup each of carrots, beans, peas, spinach, zucchini
  • 1 cup rice
  • 4 cups

Method

  • In a sauce pan boil two cups of water.
  • Add the chicken and vegetables.
  • Cook covered for about 20 minutes in medium low heat until the chicken and vegetables are well cooked.
  • Meanwhile, cook rice in the remaining two cups of water. Drain and keep aside.
  • Mix the rice, chicken and vegetables and serve in portions.
  • Refrigerate the rest in zip lock packets.

Since I’m a smol pupper, Mommy mixes together a portion of this food, add the chicken-vegetable broth and a pinch of turmeric powder. I love it for the food is moistened and I also get enough water intake.
