9 Books That Will Make You Love Dogs Even More #ReadingWithMuffy {January Check-in}

Are you a dog lover like me? I’m sure you’d probably have your furry friend curled up at your feet as you’re reading this. You may also have signed up for #ReadingWithMuffy 2020 Monthly Reading Challenge and you’ve read an amazing dog book.

Yes, this is a monthly check-in post where I’ll also be giving you some book recommendations based on the prompt of the month. The January Prompt is

1. Marley & Me: How can I even get started about this book? The movie broke my heart and I cried buckets. I couldn’t dare read the book though, it’d upset me so much. This is John Grogan’s funny, unforgettable tribute to this wonderful, wildly neurotic Lab. There is nothing extraordinary about this book but there is.

2. A Dog’s Purpose: This is the remarkable story of one endearing dog’s search for his purpose over the course of several lives.  Surprised to find himself reborn as a rambunctious golden-haired puppy after a tragically short life as a stray mutt, Bailey’s search for his new life’s meaning leads him into the loving arms of 8-year-old Ethan. During their countless adventures, Bailey joyously discovers how to be a good dog.

3. The Art of Racing in the Rain: What I love the most about this book is that it is narrated from a dog’s PoV and is about the life of a man and his dog. Enzo knows he is different from other dogs: a philosopher with a nearly human soul. Denny Swift, his master, is an up-and-coming race car driver. This is a heart-wrenching but funny tale where on the eve of his death, Enzo takes stock of his life, recalling all that he and his family have been through.

4. Good Dog: I just bought Good Dog and I can’t wait to begin reading this. Brodie didn’t remember the exact moment that he died. But he did remember the exact moment that he woke up afterward. When he woke up he was already running. In his awe-inspiring new novel, acclaimed author Dan Gemeinhart brings his signature blend of action, heart, and beautiful, deliberate prose to the story of a good dog who can’t move on to the afterlife until the boy he loves is safe.

5. Dog Days: Dog Days isn’t really about a dog, but is part of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. I loved reading this book of a hilarious comic!

6. A Big Little Life: A retired service dog, Trixie was three when Dean and his wife, Gerda, welcomed her into their home. She was superbly trained, but her greatest gifts couldn’t be taught: her keen intelligence, her innate joy, and an uncanny knack for living in the moment.

7. Until Tuesday: is the story of how two wounded warriors, who had given so much and suffered the consequences, found salvation in each other. It is a story about war and peace, injury and recovery, psychological wounds and spiritual restoration. But more than that, it is a story about the love between a man and a dog, and how, together, they healed each other’s souls.

8. Puma A Soldier’s Dog: An Indie pup enters the cantonment in search of food and gets brutally thrashed by Sir Kattappa and gang. He, however, is fortunate enough to meet Arjun who becomes his Dadda. He is fondly named Puma and then on, dreams on serving his motherland by becoming a soldier, joining the Canine Forces. However, things take a drastic turn and his life goes upside down. When everything was coming back to normal, there is a terrorist attack on his Dadda’s unit and it’s time for Puma to prove his mettle.

9. The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time: When his neighbor’s dog is mysteriously murdered, 15-year-old Christopher sets out to find the culprit. He is gifted with a superbly logical brain, lives on patterns, rules, and a diagram kept in his pocket. Christopher sets out to solve the murder in the style of his favorite (logical) detective, Sherlock Holmes.
