When it rains
I sit by the window
Cold wind hitting my face
as grey marks the skies.
When it rains
I watch the raindrops in the meadow
as the gym shoes lay forgotten
buried deep underneath the bed.
When it rains
I pamper myself a little
make a cup of ‘garam chai’
and dig into the world’s delicious pakoras.
When it rains
I make a big bowl of popcorn to dip into,
queue up some classics
and go on a Netflix marathon.
When it rains
I grab a mushy romance
To get lost in the land
of charming princes and beautiful princesses.
When it rains
I wink at my Golden boy
Let him out
So he gallops like a pony.
When it rains
I join the furball, get drenched
and succumb to the wave of emotions
flowing through me.
When it rains
I put my headphones on
and dance
to heal what’s broken.
But sometimes when it rains
I seek silence and a cozy corner
to pour my heart out
as a zillion thoughts run through my mind.
Alas! When it rains
as the cold breeze hums soft tunes
All I really do is
cozy under a fuzzy blanket and snore away to glory.

Nice one. Wasn’t expecting this end. It so much reminded me of my own poem. Keep the good work going 🙂

Thank you. I had a totally different ending in mind when I started writing this. Alas!
Oh yes! I love the rain too, especially when I can be at home! As I read this, I recalled the video you shared of Muffy trying to catch raindrops! ♥
Binge watching netflix or reading a good book are the best options for me when it rains. Nice poem Shalini.
haha…that’s a good note to end on, Shalini. Nice poem. As a kid, I hated the rains, but now, I find it more pleasing as it gives me the chance to sit and reflect, or even get down to write, listening to the gentle pitter-patter of the rains. A completely different story though, if I were out and about in the streets of Bangalore.
Ha,ha,ha, I love the last option the best! Cozying with a book, listening to the pitter-patter outside inevitably leads to snores you know? Love this poem Shalini!
Ha! What an excellent note to end on! Nothing beats beauty sleep, after all. We just need an excuse to catch a few more winks! 😉

I skipped from one image to the next as I read your poem Shalini, and each was more endearing than the last one.

Rainy days are meant for just all these things! Unfortunately I can’t indulge in such pleasures anymore but am glad that you can ! Enjoy! It must be bliss up on the hills watching the rain fal down .
Hmm. Twist in the last verse 😀 Good one T. I did relate to chai and window though.

I loved the poem. It captured the essence of a rainy day perfectly!
Loved the poem. I could visualize your golden boy playing catch-catch with the raindrops. Nothing beats the sight of rain falling in the hills and the resulting mist.

What a beautiful one, Shalini! I loved how beautifully descriptive each stanza was. Well done with this poem. 🙂
So beautifully expressed it! This is so relatable because these are the kind of things that I would like to do when it rains.

Those last two stanzas. That’s me :P. So beautifully penned I figured each and every thing you mentioned.
That last bit..of getting into a fuzzy blanket..now that’s what all of us would love to do when it rains! 😛
Binge watching sounds perfect accompaniment to the chai, pakoras and the blanket Shalini – lovely lines! Very much from the heart and capture the essence of rains 🙂

Very evocative writing! I want to do all of this, too! Especially that part about snoring away 😅
That created a vivid imagery in front of my eyes. And yes, this is the way to spend one’s time, when it rains!!
Rains are amazing to say the least. They make everything around come alive. There’s so much one can do while hearing the pitter patter outside. Beautiful post 😊.
I love sleeping too when it rains. Also the books and the chai. This blog hop we somehow all seem to love it when it rains.
The last one is my favourite , Shalini. Sleeping when it rains. But I think you covered everything one does during rains and so beautifully too. Again a great prompt, I must say 🙂

You summed up entire gamut of my feelings about rains, Shalini. Watching every raindrop trickle on the window pane was my favourite when I was a child. Those memories are still wet in my heart. Your verse wandered me to that lost lane of life. Thanks for that.
Perfect read in this dreamy weather!
ahh all the feels! Your poem has such a goody-goody feeling. The beauty of rain is so comforting at times.

What a lovely poem! I want to do that last one. I never get to laze around to my will. You took me back to the carefree olden days, Shalini. Your rainy days sound relaxing. ❤ 🙂

I love this poem! Dancing in the rain is good for healing what’s broken. (Till you step, barefoot, on a fat earthworm out rehydrating himself, trip, and break your face… let’s hope THAT never happens!)
Beautifully written. I always envy those who can write poetry… It is the one thing I’ve always been terrible at 🙂 can’t even do a limerick.
I love the rains. I was in Mumbai these past few days enjoying the festivities of Ganesh Chaturthi and the rains. Your poem is so relatable. I love the chai, pakoras and the idea of a cozy corner for reading or just witnessing the falling raindrops. Furballs love running around in the rains, mine did too.
I used to do all that you mentioned here in this beautiful poem but not enjoying rains now but someday I hope to get back to my normal.
Lovely words! The activities of the rain so beautifully penned. #WordsMatter
Lovely poem with beautiful emotions
This is beautiful, Shalini. Reading a book and snuggling under the covers are my favourites.

I love the rains!
lovely poem, I love to binge-watch web series or read a book, but if its rainy day holiday for kids…priorities change to making cups of tea and pakoras, popcorn & fryums for my monsters.
Loved the Rain Poem, Sindhudurg has heavy rainfalls each year and I miss them badly now. I so wish it rains just like monsoon’s but it is decreased a lot now unlike the heavy rains in August 🙂

Lovely poem..rains is my favorite season and your every word resonates with my feelings of rain
So beautifully captured each essence of Rain in each stanza that expresses a mood of rain. I think we writers do the second last stanza a lot when it rains :))
Could relate to then last stanza, when it’s raining and the climate is gloomy and cold all i like to do is sleep. 😅
Rain is beautiful in itself, but these lines have made it feel and look all the more prettier. Lovely writing Shalini, truly a pro with your words.
awww loved reading it dear! amazing
Hey Shalini, when it rains I also like to enjoy y chai and pakodas. But the best is to cosy in your blanket and snore. There is a different charm in dreaming while it rains.
You have poured your feelings about the rains into a beautiful poem. loved reading it
