“Why did we give you this name,” my Mom screamed, throwing her hands up in the air with mere frustration.
I was named Shalini- meaning Modest. It’s a completely different story that I nowhere gave justice to my name, my entire childhood. I was always naughty and complicated.
I’m also called Shalu by my near and dear ones. Back then, I did love my name only because of a famous South Indian Actress. She was a child artist in the movies and was extremely cute and loved by all. But as days passed, I realised that my name also meant the Lady of the House. Cool, isn’t it. I can be Unassuming, resourceful and also mean a type of tree/flower.
The first time I was asked this question was in my Career training Sessions at college. I knew it meant modest and the trainer did say that my personality is sweet and humble. I remember being happy about it. But this is the first time that I am actually “researching” about my name and I actually found great things. I felt so elated finding what the Urban dictionary had to tell: 🙂
Oh, now I am blushing. 😛
Though the name is popular down South in India, it is a unique name in general. The numerolgy of my name says that I would play the big brother or big sister, and make’s the perfect older child. I shall be very sensitive to the needs of others and very compassionate. I am imaginitive, dreamy and artistically talented. Cent percent true. Wow!! I feel really good about myself now, and I hum the popular Malayalam film song, “Shaleena pournami urangiyo…”- (Oh humble moon, did you sleep!).
Shalini! Indeed a beautiful name. Sounds loke music to the ears!! My niece’s name is also Shalini and we all call her Shalu. She is also as sweet looking as you are.
Remember the movie Sachin? Genelia will be called “Shalu ma!” throughtout. Since my nick is Sharu, everyone calls me “Sharu ma!” 😀 Very cute name Shalu 🙂
I know….. all the 7years in Tamilnadu- )for my Bachelor’s Masters and work), I’ve been called “Shalu Ma”!! 😛 You have a lovely name too, SharuMa.. 😛
