Born in 2020 as a simple thank-you to this amazing bookish community, Reading With Muffy has grown into a beloved tradition. Mufasa, aka Muffy, my golden retriever and self-proclaimed co-host, has been at the heart of it all—cheering on your reading successes (and occasionally stealing the spotlight).
This year, we’re diving into a fresh set of creative prompts that promise to keep your reading life interesting. From books with animal-inspired titles to cozy classics, each month brings a unique twist to your literary journey.
So, if you’re ready to read more, have fun with monthly challenges, and maybe win some exciting prizes along the way, join us for the 2025 #ReadingWithMuffy Challenge. Let’s make this a year to remember, one book at a time!

Reading with Muffy – Prompts
January ~ A Paw-some Start to the Year!
January 8th is Muffy’s Barkday, so let’s celebrate our furry, feathered, and scaled friends! Pick a book that has the name of an animal or bird in the title. Whether it’s a roaring tiger, a soaring sparrow, or a loyal hound, let this month’s pick take you on a wild literary ride.
eg: To Kill a Mockingbird, Six of Crows, The Hound of Baskerville, She and Her Cat, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
February ~ Think Pink!
In honor of love and all things rosy, let’s celebrate Valentine’s vibes with a book that sports a pink cover. Soft pastels or vibrant fuchsias—any shade of pink will do!
eg: Kisses & Croissants, The Two Lives of Lydia Bird, One Last Stop, Red White & Royal Blue
March ~ Bigger is Better!
Challenge yourself this month with a hefty tome that’s over 400 pages. It’s the perfect time to finally tackle that epic fantasy, sweeping historical saga, or sprawling contemporary masterpiece you’ve been meaning to read.
eg: The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue, Throne of Glass, Becoming, Nine Perfect Strangers
April ~ Four’s the Charm!
This month, your task is simple: read a book with exactly four words in its title. Count the words, embrace the quirk, and dive into a book that fits the bill.
eg: Gone With the Wind, A Man Called Ove, Where the Crawdads Sing, The Hate U Give
May ~ Journey to Japan
Explore the Land of the Rising Sun with a book set in Japan. From lush historical fiction to modern dramas, immerse yourself in Japanese landscapes, culture, and storytelling.
eg: Kitchen, Convenience Store Women, The Travelling Cat Chronicles, Sweet Bean Paste
June ~ Father Figures
In the month we honor dads, choose a book featuring a strong father figure. Whether it’s an inspirational mentor, a dedicated parent, or an unexpected hero, celebrate the power of paternal love in literature.
eg: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Pride and Prejudice, A Game of Thrones, A Walk to Remember
July ~ Second Time’s the Charm!
This month is for sequels! Read the second book in a duology, and discover how the story unfolds. Dust off that long-neglected follow-up and finally complete the tale. You may even pick a trilogy that you didn’t get to complete.
eg: Crooked Kingdom, Redemptor, Vengeful
August ~ Beyond Your Borders
Step out of your comfort zone and explore the diversity of India! Pick a book set in an Indian state other than your own and discover stories that span the length and breadth of our incredible country. If you are an International reader, read a book set in India.
eg: Bombay Brides, The Widows of Malabar Hill, The Secret Keeper of Jaipur, The Collector’s Wife, Wari
September ~ A Very Special ‘P’!
This September is extra special because it’s my little one’s first birthday! In her honor, choose a book that starts with the letter P. Let’s make it a celebratory month filled with stories that resonate!
eg: Pride and Prejudice, P S I Love You, Pumpkinheads, People We Meet on Vacation
October ~ Locked In!
Spooky season is here, and so is the perfect genre to match the vibes! Pick a locked room mystery where secrets abound, suspects are trapped, and the solution is as chilling as the Halloween air.
eg: And Then There Were None, The Guest List, The Hunting Party, Murder on the Orient Express, The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle
November ~ Brewing Up Stories
Pour yourself a warm drink and settle in with a book featuring tea, coffee, teashop, or café in the title. It’s a month to cozy up with comforting reads and aromatic beverages.
eg: Before the Coffee Gets Cold, The Pumpkin Spice Cafe, The Little Teashop of Lost and Found, The Tea Dragon Society
December ~ A Classic Finale
What better way to end the year than with a classic? Whether it’s Austen, Dickens, Tagore, or Premchand, revisit the timeless stories that continue to inspire generations.
eg: Wuthering Heights, Dracula, Little Women, Oliver Twist, The Diary of a Young Girl

This reading challenge sounds so interesting. The impulsive me is pushing me hard to take it up, but the rational me, who is well aware of my limitations is asking to take a pause and decide. Nevertheless, I am bookmarking this post to come back after a final thought. And thank you and Muffy for this challenge.
Samata says
WOW, this challenge looks awesome for all those who are in absolute love with books and reading is a blessing for those. I am just loving it. But I need to plan if I join this reading challenge as I love to read a lot but at my own pace of my own choice.

All the best for 2025. It’s good to know you are turning this cute Muffy challenge into a reader’s nook. Moreover, the good part is the global reach.
Preeti Chauhan says
I’m interested in participating in the Reading With Muffy challenge, but I’m a little concerned about my ability to meet the deadlines. I’m going to give it a try, though, because I like the prompts that you’ve provided. They’re not overly narrow, which gives me some flexibility in my reading choices. I’m going to announce my participation in a separate post, and then I’ll see if I can fit in the first prompt.
Manali Desai says
I thoroughly enjoyed being a part of this challenge in 2024, and ended up reading some amazing titles. some of which had been in my TBR for decades. I would’ve signed up right away for 2025 too but for that 400 page prompt 😭 why would you do that?? I’m not reading books with 200+ pages lately and it’s been a while I read any book over 300 pages. Uff! you’ve put me in such a dilemma, Shalini

I had signed up for this 2 years back, but couldn’t complete. My reading graph is very erratic these days, in fact this whole year. Though I’m tempted, I’m not confident of being able to do justice. Plus I already have a huge TBR list–when am I going to finish them! 🙁
Best wishes to you and to all the participants.
