Ten years of marriage.
Ten years of secrets.
An anniversary they’ll never forget.
Adam and Amelia are spending the weekend in the Scottish Highlands. The remote location is perfect for what they have planned.
But when their romantic trip takes a dark turn, they both start to wonder – can they trust the one they’re with?
Because every couple tells little white lies. Only for Adam and Amelia, the truth is far more dangerous.
Bookstagram has introduced me to many books and while not all have lived up to its hype, I am most thankful. This is one such book that was all over the Gram but somehow, I never felt the need to pick it up. I have no idea why I decided to sit on the sidelines while the whole world went gaga over it. I am hoping that the title wasn’t intriguing, but rather misleading as I kept putting it off to even read the blurb.
Oh, what a terrible mistake that was! I realize that now. Read on to know why.
🔥🔥🔥“The best lessons are often the ones we don’t realize we’re being taught.”
I pride myself on being an avid reader, especially someone who loves thrillers and mystery books. It is a rare occurrence that I do not predict the climax or so-called twists and turns and that is okay. So when Rock Paper Scissors took me for a wild and unpredictable ride, oh Boy, I was left mindblown.
In fact, I am writing this review just minutes after finishing the book.
So, you should bear with me if this doesn’t come out as a typical book review.
Mr and Mrs Wright have been married for ten years but not everything is rosy. When they win a weekend getaway to Scotland, they believe maybe this is the last resort to save their marriage. Adam Wright is a screenwriter and a workaholic who has lived with face blindness all his life. He cannot recognize his friends or family, not even his wife. He would love to publish his own work Rock Paper Scissors someday, but for now, he is happy writing screenplays for book-to-movie adaptations.
His wife works at a dog shelter and on every anniversary the couple exchanges traditional gifts- something made of paper the first year, cotton the second year, leather the third year, and so on. His wife also writes a letter to Adam every year but in secret, never letting him know of its existence.
The weekend getaway, however, turns out dark when they realize that it wasn’t a random win. Moreover, it is an old chapel known to be haunted that they get to stay. But it’s the secrets they keep from each other that come back to haunt them.
🔥🔥🔥“She wonders about that a lot: why people only learn to live in the moment when the moment has passed.”
I read this book in two sittings, only because I couldn’t keep my eyes open at night. Trust me, you are not going to predict the ending for it unfolds in such a way that it was mind-boggling!
I may have to warn you though. The book may appear to start slow, in fact, it cannot be clubbed into a fast-paced thriller per se. The story moves slowly but you are literally hooked to it that you want to know what’s happening.
When the first twist uncovers your jaw will drop! I was baffled!
I cannot fathom even now how someone could write such a brilliant story. The narration is perfect jumping from one PoV to another. But it is smooth and you can picture all the details in your head.
I was on pins and needles throughout!
Just a fistful of characters but they’re so neatly done that you will not even realize you have to rethink everything you thought you knew.

You have me intrigued. I would certainly like to read this book with its haunted chapel and why it wasn’t a random win. I also don’t know anything about face blindness, so that would be good info too,
Samata says
The book is a suspense thriller that has a married couple on the verge of ending their relationship in the foreground. Their plans for a romantic weekend getaway to save their marriage turn into a nightmare as they become trapped in a strange, eerie, ominous hotel converted into a deserted chapel. The story is interspersed with stark revelations and magnificent twists that keep the readers engaged till the very end.
I read this book and it was a .5/5 star read

This was quite a long book review but one that did not give away much of the plot and did not spoil the intrigue but had my interest aroused enough to buy it.
