Which was your spine-tingling spooky read this Halloween month? If you are following me on Instagram, you’d know by now how frightening it is for me to read a horror book. I was never like this though. I loved watching Conjuring, Ring, Annabelle, and so on. But I think reading makes things a wee bit more difficult because my imagination goes wild then.
I picked up The Taking of Annie Thorne after researching a lot. It was a perfect fit for me because there wasn’t anything too sinister about it (at least according to Goodreads reviews).
The Taking of Annie Thorne

Eight-year-old Annie goes missing but after 48hours, she is miraculously back. Except she isn’t the same anymore. And Annie’s brother Joe Thorne is back in their childhood hometown Arnhill after years to solve the mystery.
๐ Review:
The book started off well with a creepy and horrific death but that’s it. It wasn’t until the very middle of the story that anything remotely ghostly happened. This is coming from someone like me, who as I said, gets jittery at something even remotely spooky.
While the story had some interesting characters, I wasn’t really impressed. It felt as if I had read this book before.
I wasn’t wrong because the author claims she is a huge Stephen King fan and many Goodreads reviewers claim her stories are eerily similar to the author’s work.
So, while the writing style is good, I feel the whole thing was a little flat for me.
If you’d still like to pick up this book, here is the link.
That said, here’s another popular book by the author which has got even better reviews.
๐Fun Fact:
The book was released under the title The Hiding Place in the U.S.
