I have a dedicated space on my bookshelf for all my unread books. While I was putting together this post, I didn’t think it was this many – 97! And it doesn’t include the books that are on my Kindle, the ebooks and ARCs. I’m not proud of this, don’t get me wrong. But I love hoarding books.
They say retail therapy is the best therapy and I cannot agree more. For me, it is books and shoes and they are just never enough. I turn a deaf ear and keep a blind eye to Marie Kondo and her decluttering ideas when it comes to these two things. Can’t help it! Ouch! I think it is perfectly okay to have an enormous pile of To-Be-Read books.
Tackling the Unread Books
Stack Them All Together: There were a good number of books that I had completely forgotten about and I am, in a way, happy to rediscover them. Why I didn’t know about its existence before was because they were there everywhere. I used to color coordinate my books earlier and didn’t have the slightest idea of this humongous, evergrowing TBR pile. So, I have stacked them all together to visualize my reading goal.
Organize by Genre: Another way to tackle your TBR is by organizing the unread books by genre. I believe, like me, you’d read books based on your mood and state of mind. This technique helps in picking up more books to read. You can even assign a “Crime fiction” reading week or “Romance week”.
Read-a-thon! Ever heard of it? On my Bookstagram account with my darling Golden boy, I do read-a-thons. It is a fun way of picking up a book and joining like-minded bloggers/Instagrammers to read the book along, during an assigned date. It’s a great way to get some reading done.
Join a Reading Challenge: At the beginning of the year, I was so pepped up to read a lot of books that I joined about 4 or 5 Reading Challenges. I’ve already failed one miserably! But I am keeping track of the others. I have a dedicated spreadsheet with all the challenges, their prompts and the books I have chosen. This helps me read a variety of books and not just stick to one genre.

. and the next thing you can do is
Yes, I am giving away one book from my TBR pile for I found out that I had two copies of the same book. One was a Christmas Santa gift and the other I had bought without knowing that my Santa would be sending me the same copy. Well, that’s just me!
I have read the book (I couldn’t help but read it when I ‘rediscovered’ it from the unread pile) and it is brilliant! Of course, I will be giving away the new unread book. Duh! The Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris has gone on to top the charts around the world and for a reason. You can find the blurb here.
