I am an emotional being. I get goosebumps when our National Anthem is played- be it in a movie theatre, or when our Flag is hoisted on special occasions, or when we sing at the end of our class, or even when our cricketers line up before the match. There are few songs who makes me teary-eyed and proud at the same time.
So, here I am, picking my treasured Patriotic songs. I hope you listen to them. 🙂
1. Aye mere watan ke logo
The song has always, ALWAYS left me with tears. I have them right now. Being a soldier’s daughter, a soldier’s wife, the song is so close to my heart that it gives me goosebumps each time I hear. Sung by the Nightingale of India- Lata Mangeshkar, you ought to listen to her atleast now, if you haven’t before. The above video has English translation too.
2. Aisa Des Hai Mera – Veer-Zaara
This is a beautiful romantic movie set in the olden times, about cross-border love between an Indian boy (Shahrukh Khan) and a Pakistani girl (Preity Zinta). This lovely patriotic song is when the boy is singing paeans to his country, and the girl points out that both their countries are similar. The lovers compare their respective countries in a positive way promoting harmony. The above video also has English translation.
3. Sandese Aate Hai – Border
The song is not just a patriotic number. But also a romantic song. When one calls out to his lover, the other thinks about his family. This is close to my heart as I used to see my Mom waiting for Dad’s letters for months or a mere phone call for weeks when he was posted in the border. And whenever this song was played on television I could see her eyes filling up with tears. 🙁
4. Maa Tujhe Salaam – A.R. Rahman
Rahman’s masterpiece, this song oozes the feeling of pride and unity. A true salute to the Motherland,he created waves simply by presenting India’s favourite Vande Mataram in a modern avatar.
5. Kandhon Se Milte Hain Kandhe
A very motivating song, that gives you lot of energy and enthusiasm.
6. I Love My India : Pardes
Another song that’s personal to me, I have dance on the track in my school days. I adore the song so much,
esp the lines ” I have seen London, Paris, Michael Jackson and Elvis, but in the whole world, there is nothing marvelous than India <3
That’s my pic 😛
7.Bharat Humko Jaan Se Pyaara Hai
I’ve grown up watching this movie. On all Independence and republic Day this movie will be telecasted on “Doordarshan” channel. A young couple from South India goes for a honeymoon and the groom is kidnapped by jihadis. This song truly epitomizes the spirit of the movie.
8. Mile Sur Mera Tumhara
A song that truly depicts the different cultural heritage with varied colours, religions, languages, caste an way of life. Few days back I saw the song on television only to be reminded of it from long ago. I could listen to my husband singing the entire song showcasing different languages. It was Wow!!
9. Toh Chaloon: Border
I don’t know whether it is a patriotic one. But it’s a beautiful romantic number showing the agony of a soldier who is only married and has to leave for war the very next day. He is begging time to stop and show him some mercy. Oh dear Lord, it’s so personal to me and I always feared I will go through the same. 😛 But my husband never left me after the wedding night though. He left me after ten days. Yes. TEN!! The ending of the song is heart-breaking.
10. Rang De Basanti
Now, that’s a peppy number, this is a beautiful song on Modern India. 🙂
11. Last, but not the least: Country Roads take me home

The 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 10th patriotic song are my favourite ones. I still remember the flag hoisting ceremonies I attended in school, and the wonderful patriotic dances and songs presented on those days!
These singers and artists have put so much soul into expressing themselves and their patriotic feelings towards India in their work! 🙂
the songs of Border still make me emotional. They are beautiful songs.
