Thailand Travel Tales

Shopping in Bangkok

Thailand offers not only the stunning landscapes and white pristine beaches, but it’s a haven for all the shopaholics. Be it the designer labels (or their imitations!) Thailand, especially Bangkok provides a wide variety of options for shopping enthusiasts. Shopping in Bangkok can start right from around the corner of the street to sky-high towers in the heart of the city. Plan your trip and your shopping wisely so as to accommodate the things, souvenirs, and gifts in your luggage.

The main places where you can go shopping includes:

MBK Centre

MBK Centre - MBK Mall Bangkok

MBK Centre or Mahboonkrong stands tall in the heart of the city with a brilliant structural expertise that can accommodate the all the major requirement of the tourists. With eight stories high and close to 2000 shops and restaurants, the mall is huge. But, it is well listed and planned guide markers helps in identifying and locating the shops. The walk through the mall will leave you exhausted and it’s difficult to get past one floor without feeling tired and exhausted. But again, you will feel wanting for more. Early planning should help us in getting through easily.

Siam Paragon

Siam Paragon _ Siam Discovery Bangkok

Closest to the BTS/Skytrain Station Siam is this beautiful glass structure mall. There are many towers and well laid out pathways. Remember ? The SEALIFE Bangkok Ocean world and Madame Tussauds’s forms a part of this mall. It is the third largest mall in Thailand and is extremely popular amongst tourists.

Terminal 21

It’s often said that if you can feel the essence of a place, it’s like being in that place. Terminal 21 looks like an airport terminal themed around cities from the world. It is home to many food joints and one can find the nicest one over here if you are intending to live in the Sukhumvit area.

Pratunam Market

Pratunam Market

Located opposite of the Platinum Shopping Mall, Pratunam Market is a favorite amongst all tourists. The name sounds more Indian and coincidentally, it becomes one of the most favorite places of exclusive shopping for Indian/Asian among other tourists. It is an open market, bang on the road, divided into different Sois/streets. One ought to know the streets to find the things they need to pick up. I found myself going round and round here as it’s like Bhool Bhulaiya streets going into each other. So, try to memorize which street you are entering into, before you shop. It is also a wholesale market. Look out for all sorts of gifts from scented soaps, clothes, lingerie, shoes, bags, and electronics.

Indra Market

BMW Bangkok

Another go to market for any visiting tourists due to being in proximity to Pratunam market is the Indra Market. Unlike the Pratunam Market, Indra Market houses itself in the Indra Regent hotel. The place is crowded and you can find couples spending the entire day days in the market looking for gifts/souvenirs for the dear ones. Both the markets aren’t difficult to locate. Head straight to this BMW logo building. It’s the most prominent landmark here.

Apart from these shopping malls, there are markets set up every night or exclusively on Weekends. More on that later!

.. to be continued!
