Fifteen minutes. Dad will wake me up anytime now. I set aside my scrapbook onto my suitcase and get back to bed. I feel sleepy.
Yeah, I am dozing off to sleep. Scared of the long-awaited sea change in my life!
My sane mind whispers in my slumber, “Screw your courage to the sticking place and you’ll not fail, honey”.
“But I’m sad to leave home, leave my room and my books”, I retort.
“Nobody is sending you packing, idiot! And you are leaving home to start a family of your own. He is a nice guy and is definitely not stony-hearted as you presume! You are not star crossed lovers. You were destined to be together and there are blessings from above. Stop assuming!”
“I don’t want to get up. I want to sleep. Wish our weddings were at night. I’m a night owl, you know! The very thought of getting up sets my teeth on edge.”
“We are such stuff as dreams are made on, honey! Now stop nagging and get back to sleep!”
As the whispers die away, I drift off to sleep… holding my singlehood as tight as I can!
Just then I hear the dread knock on the door, “Shalu…………..it’s 5.30!”
Oh Dad!!!! 🙁 🙁
