Closing her eyes and sucking it all in,
she surrenders every night to his painful ways.
As he moans and screams in pleasure
squeezing and tearing her flesh apart,
she lies there, devoid of life.
She wonders,
‘It is not a bed of roses,
Neither is he the man I loved
Nor is this what I deserve.
It does not make my heart beat faster,
It is not cute or blind
It doesn’t steal my heart nor does it make me smile.
And then they say, This is Love!

It’s nice, Shalzz. 🙂 Almost feels like the story of a sex worker. Being pleasured but without love. Just lust.
Shalzzz says
Thanks, Vinay 🙂

Kind of antithetical imagery here. A bit dark and sad, but beautifully expressed.

I liked the realistic approach! Yes very often, love doesn’t feel as it is made out to be..

Lots of emotion and I felt for the poor woman in this poem. Very sad and yet probably happening more than we realize.
Pooja Abhay says
Beautifully expressed the harsh realities of a bad marriage. It is sort of ironic.
Ina Tales says
Love the crescando of your voice rising up with the line Shalini. Call this marital rape or a compromised marriage.. but the fact is that is happens. What is the solution? I don’t think anyone has come up with an idea yet.
