I Strongly Feel About it.. Do you?

Blog to Feed a Child for an Year

Dear Good People,

We have come across different statistics on the dreadful evils prevailing in our society- poverty, unemployment and what not! And we prefer to turn a deaf ear to all the campaigns which try to help or find a solution. We believe, one person cannot save the world, that we are not saviors and there are sufferings in the world which you cannot change. But how long can you live a life like that?

“Think about the generations to say and we want to make it a better world for our children and our children’s children. So that they know it’s a better world for them; and think if they can make it a better place.”- Michael Jackson

We celebrated Children’s day in India, a week ago. What did we do? We changed our DPs in Facebook and Watsapp to our favorite childhood pics and we commented, “Aww…you looked so cute” and we simply left it like that- including me. But, deep in our hearts don’t we feel for it? Feel that you should bring about a change in someone’s life? At least be a cause of someone’s smile? And what more can you ask for, if it is a child’s?

Statistics say that during 2006– 2007, malnutrition contributed to 7 million Indian children dying, nearly 2 million before the age of one. And here I am, right from my childhood making a big fuss, of not having my breakfast even when it is laid out perfectly well on the dining table, or being picky in whatever I eat, complaining Mom that I don’t like the same food over and over again in my lunch box. I shamelessly admit that I’m still more or less the same. But now, all I can think of is, there are children dying in this world, because of lack of food. Capture

Our government has taken baby steps to eradicate classroom hunger via the Midday Meal Scheme, wherein every child in every Government and Government-aided primary school is to be served a prepared Mid Day Meal with a specific amount of calories and proteins.  Also, the Right to Eduction is made as a fundamental right- wherein, children has a right to free and compulsory education till completion of elementary education. Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan is another initiative in supporting the cause.

But how can you as a person contribute?

This awe-inspiring initiative from Blogadda and Akshayapatra gives us a chance to be the one who can make a change- a small, but definitive difference in a child’s life. By a single post of mine, BlogAdda will sponsor for an Akshaya Patra beneficiary on their Midday Meal Programme for an entire year. You would agree with me if I say that a Midday Meal Scheme is one of the best ways to eradicate classroom hunger. Kids will come to the classroom to eat. Yes, EAT. Let them be fed and then let them be taught and educated.

Why not take an extra step? Contribute a meagre share of your monthly salary to a mid-day meal programme? The 1000 bucks which you want to spend for a lipstick might feed a child for a day.

Why not sponsor a meal for the needful on your birthday? or your cousin’s wedding? or your anniversary? What more of a noble thing do you need to do? I have a friend of mine who always sponsored a meal in a nearby orphanage on her birthday. We have gone our separate ways but I still remember her for that one dignified act she did way back then. Can’t we do something similar and sponsor a midday meal at a nearby school?

Let’s join our hands and contribute in eradicating classroom hunger. I am also following Dr. Roshan’s idea on tagging few blogger friends of mine, so that they can also write and help in feeding children.

Requesting  Sheethal, Nibha and Vinay for the same.

“Heal the World, make it a better place..

For you and for me and the entire human race..

There are people dying if you care enough for the living, Make a better place for you and for me.” – Michael Jackson
