It’s Onam…………………. Though I miss my family, I’ve made it a point to celebrate the festival with full enthusiasm. 🙂 Yesterday, I had written a post on the King Mahabali and why we celebrate Onam.
For me, Onam means, new clothes, Sadya(a feast with 26 dishes), Pookalam (rangoli of flowers), Swing, dance and music. Since we had guests for lunch, I had to be up early to prepare the Sadya. Yeah, 26 dishes is pretty difficult to prepare. 🙂
I had left the Pookalam task to P. I guess he did a splendid job with the limited resources. What do yo think? 😛
My Sadya preparations were done on time and I was mighty pleased when my guests were asking for more and more and more. I could see a proud husband in P. <3
My sadya
I was ecstatic getting new clothes from Mom and Dad, couriered all the way from Kerala. Yay.. And I was beautifully clad in Kerala Saree. Usually a Kerala Saree will be white with golden border. But these days, you get in a lot of varieties as mural paintings, thread works, embroidery etc. And see mine, there’s a Little Krishna embroidered. 🙂
As children, we always looked forward to the swings which would be put at home as part of celebrating Onam. I miss those days of absolute fun and frolic when all the cousins get together, playing and dancing.
Last but definitely not the least are the dance and music. Tiger Dance and Kaikottikali are the popular ones.
All set for the dance. Spot me!!
Let me know how you celebrated 🙂
