“So, would you like to grab a coffee tomorrow?”, asked Arjun on the day of their engagement.
“Sure. I will tell Dad”, Mira blushed.
Ha! The perks of an arranged marriage, Arjun was quick to roll his eyes.
Next morning Mira wore a simple yellow salwar suit and headed to Barista. Arjun was nowhere to be seen. She found a place for them. Fifteen minutes later when he entered the coffee shop, she stood up and waved at him.
“Hi! Sorry. Got held up in traffic.”, Arjun beamed. “After you”, and he pulled out her chair.
Whoa! After all chivalry is not dead! Mira was clearly impressed. “Thanks. It’s good to see you.”
“What will you have?”, Arjun smiled and pointed to the counter displaying the menu.
He looked at Mira as she let her fingers run over the six little diamonds on her new platinum ring. Her midnight-black hair had streaks of brown and flowed over her shoulders. Her kohl eyes were irresistibly charming.
Oh boy! This is the girl I’m going to marry in a few months time. But does she like me? Will we get along? What should I ask her? I know I have to say something. But how can I, when my mind is so enraptured?
As if she’d heard his thoughts, Mira started to turn. Her cheek first, then her lips and then the crease of her brow. Her ocean eyes met his gaze.
“Mira.. I would really like to know you”, was all he could manage to say.
