Heal The World…Make It A Better Place
For You And For Me..And The Entire Human Race
There Are People Dying..If You Care Enough For The Living
Make A Better Place…For You And For Me
– Michael Jackson
There is so much hatred and greed in the world. Theft, meanness and selfishness is everywhere we look. There are airplanes vanishing into thin air. There are terrorists, rapists and war. There are atheists and believers. We hate people based on their caste, color or creed- their sexual preferences, or racism. It wasn’t so long ago when innocent kids were massacred at Peshawar. And now there are ISIS militants.
There are days when you question where the world is heading to.
It makes you sad when you travel on road and see a bunch of kids begging on the streets for their livelihood. It pains your heart when you see them working in hotels. Be it on a metropolitan city or a slum. I often wonder what if feels to stay hungry. Ain’t I a blessed soul? To have proper food and shelter? These kids do not have money or support to have proper education when children of their own age live in a life of luxury and comfort.
We have bought zillions of new frocks and shirts and skirts for our lil’ ones. Can’t we at least offer the poor souls a few of your old clothes or sweaters to help them from shivering to death in this inclement weather? Many things have been said on eradicating poverty and bringing home the smiles of these small ones.
We often give a deaf ear on those advertisements in the newspaper wanting help for the sick. Have we ever thought that a bottle of blood might save one’s life?
I asked my husband on what he means by compassion. He simply said that compassion is the smile on a kid’s face when you offer them a pen or a chocolate. He told me that when he was posted at a remote village in J&K, kids used to surround his vehicle only for a mere acknowledgement. And the happiness when they find an unexpected gift makes your heart melt.
But there are times in life, when you faith is restored; when you see sunshine after a bad day; when you feel there is hope and love!
I believe in karma! I believe everyone can make a difference.
- Hold the door for an elderly
- Hold the lift for a colleague who is rushing to office
- Help an elderly cross the road
- Give a lift to an elderly walking on the streets
- Help a foreigner to read his map/help him find his way
- Feed stray dogs
- Help a wounded animal
- Say Thank you
- Smile at a stranger
- Smile at the housekeeping staff
- Have a patient ear
- Stop judging
- Give a genuine compliment
- Send a flower
- Clean up a neighbor’s yard
- Pay for a meal
- Do a favor
- Visit a friend
- Or send a message to that friend whom you’ve taken for granted and never sent a note for over an year?
- Hold a hand
- Give up your seat
- Say Good morning
- Smile at your co-passenger
Moreover, be compassionate to yourself. Stop blaming. Accept, forgive and love yourself. Overcome the insecurities. Protect yourself. My life is just a blip on this planet. But I want to make sure that I do small things that will make me happy everyday, make someone smile, make someone’s day!
Are you in for this movement? Join hands with me and the rest of the world in this crusade for compassion? Will you? I am writing this for 1000 Voices of Compassion along with a 1000 other bloggers across the globe.
